How to Wash Cloth Nappies

All nappy brands and groups have different wash guidelines. Please follow the below when using your Cloth Nappy Library loan kit.

  • Remove solids (If started weaning).
  • Dry pail: keep nappies dry in a bucket or wet bag until you have enough for a wash.
  • Close all Velcro Tabs on the cloth nappies and open up all the snap poppers.
  • First a short Cool Rinse cycle (no detergent). Wash load does not need to be full. 
  • Second a full wash load on a long hot cotton wash (2.5-3 hours) at 40 or 60 degrees with full dose of Biological Powder.  
  • Alternatively you can choose to use Non Biological powder but you must then wash at 60 degrees or add Nappy Sanitiser to the wash. 
  • You can bulk up your second wash with small items like tea towels, dish cloths, muslins, baby clothes.
  • Air dry or low heat. 
  • Do not use fabric softener. 
  • No soaking or bleach
  • No optical brighteners. 
  • No liquid pods. 
  • No hot tumble drying. 
  • Please do not place nappies on direct heat (radiators or heated airer).
