I am volunteering with Cloth Nappy Library Ireland since 2018. I received fantastic support from volunteers to get me started using cloth nappies and so, when Kildare were looking for a new volunteer, I wanted to be able to help others get started also.
As a volunteer I facilitate bookings of the local loan kit and a local newborn kit. I meet parents to give them advice on the kit – fitting nappies, brands, washing etc. and I have a local WhatsApp group where all questions can be answered by myself or other parents. I host nappuccino events monthly where parents can meet to get advice and meet others using cloth nappies.
Volunteering is very rewarding as I have met lovely people along the way and being introduced to other local clubs and groups. Working with the other volunteers is also very rewarding at the Earth Baby fair and the RDS pregnancy and baby fair over the years.
Two years ago, we finished with nappies in our house, but I am still volunteering. My entire stash of nappies was distributed to local mums in my WhatsApp group, so they are still being used today.
I would suggest volunteering to anyone who has a passion for the promotion of cloth nappies and environmental issues. It can be as little or as much as you like – the ethos has always been family first and there is never pressure. It is a great way to make a difference alongside meeting other likeminded people in your communities. I have made fabulous friends for life through the library.
